Haunting large screen projections and a live soundtrack of reverb drenched retro electronic instruments, programming loops and effects with classical strings…

Following a world premiere at Melbourne’s Federation Square earlier this year, internationally renowned artist Simon Wilkinson brings this broodingly atmospheric live AV performance to Brighton Digital Festival. The Sound of the Wind in the Trees features haunting large screen projections and a live soundtrack of reverb drenched retro electronic instruments, programming loops and effects with classical strings from musical quartet Collectress, all built around a collection of edited poignant interviews with older people about how they make sense of our common human predicament: that we are standing on a ball which is floating through space.

The performance has been designed to evolve as it tours, incorporating new video sequences, interviews and soundtrack created in each resident city. This version features contributions from several Brighton and Hove residents alongside contributions from residents of Melbourne, Victoria [Canada], New York, Adelaide, London and across the UK.

The project has been commissioned by White Night Brighton and Hove and Federation Square’s Creative Program.

The performance will be followed by an artist Q&A for those who are interested in finding out more about this fascinating project.
