Spirit of Gravity presents: John Wall, Baconhead, Ian Murphy & Nicholas Langley

Spirit of Gravity, Brighton’s long-running regular night of digital and analogue sound, music and visuals from the outer limits, presents John Wall, Baconhead, Ian Murphy & Nicholas Langley.

Spirit of Gravity is Brighton’s longest-running regular night of digital sound, music and visuals from the outer limits – with a bit of analogue thrown in. Programmes are inevitably eclectic, with electronica and experimentalia the common threads. Artists to have played at the Spirit of Gravity included Metronomy, Shitmat, Same Actor, Asmus Tiechens, Bela Emerson, Multiplex, and many, many more.

Especially for the Brighton Digital Festival, we present British electronic and sampling composer John Wall, who has been creating new works from ‘the more abrasive shards of modern classical music’ for the best part of thirty years. He was digital back when it was difficult, instead of just hard to avoid. Appropriately, the album that brought John Wall to wider attention was entitled ‘Fear of Gravity’.

Joining him on the will be Baconhead, who have a new release: jungle, dubstep, breakcore and techno influences vie for place on the digital mixed grill served up by Paul (aka Autobee) and Ben (aka  Ebola). And Ian Murphy & Nicholas Langley (of Hobo Sonn and Hz fame) will bring vintage samplers and digital improvisation to the party.

Audience participation – via the electrocreche of knackered digitalia – and adventurous audio-visuals are key features of Spirit of Gravity events. This regular night is run as a collective, convened by Geoff Reader, and welcomes requests to perform, and the prospect of collaborative work.
