The First Veil of The New Sublime – MIND

Art

The first veil of The New Sublime drops to reveal "Brighton Remixed" by Alex May in the Main Auditorium - a site specific digital video sculpture installation commissioned for this event.

The work, created from found objects, is digitally augmented with multiple layers of video filmed in Brighton over several years. Video is mapped to individual elements using Alex May’s own custom video mapping software “Painting With Light” to create a hypnotic digital remix of the city. This new artwork builds on a live video mapping performance shown at Tate Modern earlier this year.

“Equilibrium” by Jan Vantomme in the Meeting Room – interactive installation. “Now that we as civilised human beings are constantly touching our connected devices, we hardly take time to stand still and look at something beautiful.”

“Who Watches the Watchers?” by Shardcore in the Lobby – augmented painting. “The act of engaging with an artwork is a highly intimate and personal experience, a moment when we are truly alone with ourselves. It is just such private of moments that are now being automatically monitored and analysed without our consent.”

The Private View is from 6.30-9.30pm on Friday 30th August with Artist talks at 7.30pm

The New Sublime is at 68 Middle Street, open each day from 11am-5pm

Sorry Keith! It’s a field entry issue where Google maps dislikes venue names. Follow the listed address, not the map pin location.
