Learn to program with Scratch

Scratch is a programming environment designed by education experts for children aged 10-12 to learn how to program a computer.

Come along and learn how to program. Parents and children welcome.

Scratch allows children to make games and animations quickly and easily creating their own images and recording their own sounds or importing images of their favourite superheroes and adding backing tracks from their MP3 players. Block programing is used to move things around the screen so no typing is required and young children can learn to create computer programs in  hours.

You can download Scratch from http://scratch.mit.edu and it is completely free and runs on Windows, Apple Mac and the Rasberry Pi. Your child will likely have come across Scratch already at school. We are running an introductory two hour session planned for up to 30 children at 10 in the morning and again at 2 in the afternoon. Computers are provided and you are welcome to accompany your child and learn to program too (but please rememeber to get a ticket for each of you).

Stamati Crook of Redware Research Limited has been teaching children to program Scratch at several primary schools in Brighton over the last few years and will be assisted by his wife, Kathy, who is a primary school teacher in this introductory session for children who want to learn Scratch.

We also have a one hour session for adults only at 12.30 particularly suitable for teachers or computer club facilitators who want an overview of Scratch and how best to teach it in a classroom or computer club environment. If you are thinking of starting a code club then come along. Parents may also like to come along to this session without their children.

Sessions are free but please take a look at our kickstarter page if you would like to support us.
