reFRAMED – The Great Storyscape

Over two days, join an array of film and digital sector leaders for story-focused talks, screenings, and a workshop that explores the creative potential of new technologies.

Films at all budget levels are now expected to be multi-faceted experiences, with audiences moving away from ‘passive viewing’, to becoming fully engaged and participatory in narratives. Games, social media, apps and interactive platforms all provide new spaces and viewing experiences, but with all the competing ‘noise’, how can filmmakers find their audience?

Presented by Lighthouse in partnership with Talking Point, and supported by Creative Skillset, this is a chance to explore the creative potential of new technologies when developing different kinds of film stories, and how to approach these opportunities in early development, as part of the artistic process, long before marketing. Aimed at those working in film, television, games and digital media.

Day 1 at Duke’s @ Komedia
A series of talks and screenings during which industry guests will discuss a range of inspiring case-studies that demonstrate innovative thinking and non-traditional approaches. The day will end with networking drinks.

Speakers include:

  • Chris O’Reilly, Co-Founder and Luke Ritchie, Executive Producer – Nexus Productions & Nexus Interactive Arts
  • Hilary Perkins, Digital Executive Producer (Previously Multiplatform Comissioning Editor, C4)
  • Christian Fonnesbech, Creative Director and Producer – Cloud Chamber Project
  • Katie Ellen, Distribution and Exhibition Manager – BFI Film Fund
  • Matt Locke, Founder – Storythings
  • Philo van Kemenade – Mozilla Popcorn Project & Creative Technologist

Day 2 at Lighthouse
A hands-on collaborative workshop during which digital creatives will be invited to work alongside award-winning filmmakers (from Lighthouse’s Guiding Lights and BFI Shorts programmes), on a selection of live film projects at various stages of production and development.
Led by Matt Locke of Storythings, who will be sharing the design approach he has developed over 15 years of working in digital media, this session will explore the tools and creative strategies involved in creating stories that exist across multiple platforms and successfully engage audiences. Spaces for this workshop are very limited. To apply for a place see below.
